HISTORY OF BOONE'S LICK TRAIL INN

Saint Charles Inn In 1804, an Old Indian Trail was blazed to serve the Boone brothers, sons of Daniel Boone, in their salt manufacturing works in Howard County. This road quickly became the settlers' route from St. Charles, Missouri, through unsettled country to the Arrow Rock Ferry Landing. From there, the Boone's Lick Trail continued on to join the Santa Fe, Oregon and California trails.

For more than 150 years the Carter-Rice building has stood silently collecting stories about St. Charles, its residents and visitors. Now known as the Boone's Lick Trail Inn, the building has been located along Historic Boone's Lick Road since 1840.

In 1981, the Mydler family purchased the building and began renovating and planning for its new life as the Boone's Lick Trail Inn. Venetia Mydler McEntire has now also opened Boone's Colonial Inn just 5 blocks from the inn's current location. A luxury historic inn.
